When Reality Bites !!

Warning: Some portions in this post would be graphic in nature. Reader’s discretion advised…

Few days back I had a lengthy discussion with my colleague ‘M__ka’ about violence in movies. The case in hand was the string of murders committed by two ‘novice’ serial killers in a Tam movie ‘Vettaiyadu Vellaiyadu’. One might be tempted to think that it cannot get gory than this… and all such manifestations of violence should be stopped in movies.

As I flipped the coin, I found that there exists another school of thought and I totally subscribe to it – ‘Perfect rendition of violent actions in movies should be appreciated’. At the end of the day the actor is only portraying a fictional (or real life) character in the movie. So the more you get nauseated watching a scene the more the actor should be applauded.

This discussion prompted me to do some browsing on serial killers and psycho-analytic profiling by detectives. If you are interested you can read more about real life cases.

One real life case which shocked me was the story of Ted Bundy. I even managed to get a VHS of Ted Bundy from Blockbuster when I was in the US. If VV is shocking… wait until you see this movie (yeah… Ted Bundy is also a Necrophile). On the Trail of Ted Bundy would give you more insights on the profile of this notorious predator.

I wished he never existed in real life… but I must admire the way Michael Reilly Burke portrayed the character of Ted Bundy in the movie. Kudos to him.

You cannot have a serial killer do a ‘Tujhe Dekha To Ye Jaana Sanam’ and chase girls around trees. And of course you cannot dilute the movie with an ‘item’ number as it is done here. If the movie is expected to be graphic in nature it has to be that way. PERIOD

Dei, welcome to blogging. I always thought u cud blog well if you transfer even half of the humour in ur casual talk to ur writing. But i think u’d way too much ego to start blogging (I remember ur “i’m an open book, i don’t need to write anything” talk in the initial days of ISB :) ). now that u’ve caught the bug, i’ll be a regular reader :) .

    Dude…

(for a moment keeping away from M1, M2 & F1 story) At ISB I had other options to pursue and free time was spent in some form or the other.

Mani would call it Meeting… Bharani would call it PPTing… Ramki would call it Eating… Ford would call it Loafing… Raghini would call it Faffing !! ;-) . Extra time was spent helping ‘others’ in their assignments without any ROI :-)

Now since the open book is away from your hands… I thought I will put things in public domain for you to read.

    Cheerful Monk !

Dudes, I have gathered one thing over the past 14 months…it’s the determination to continue with the blog inspite of discouraging comments you have been giving throughout :) I should thank you guys…Remember all those ISB Days…! Now-a-days I am very indifferent to such comments…It’s my style and I will generate craps as I want to :) Try stopping me…

  9. Old Monk Says:

discouraging comments from me? and when did I raise comments on your blog?

If at all… my comments will only be targeted on you… not your blog…

  10. Karthik Says:

Dude Bharani, now don’t make urself a hero here. My comments have never been to discourage u from blogging, but just to tell u honestly wot i feel at the instant i read ur blog posts. probably i wudn’t have felt the same way if i hadn’t known u. many a times, reading ur blog gave/continues to give me an impression that ur posts and u (that i know) don’t match. u seem to talk down-to-earth most of the time, but ur blog seems to dish out strategic/high-level stuff. that was probably because u think that way and express it better wen u write rather than when u speak. and many times it was just an excuse for pulling ur leg than anything else. People like SK, I etc. had offered many avenues for other guys to pull our legs but 4 u blog was the easiest one. i strongly contest (and feel insulted by) ur statement that i discouraged u from blogging. i have no incentive to do it with a person like u (whom i’ve looked up to many a times). i can also type/tell things like ur blog is the best and i have it as my home page etc., but wanted to be very frank abt what i thot. i still shud be hitting ur blog more than my share (i.e. if u do get avg hits/person by doing a total no. of hits/unique readers, i’ll have more hits than that avg). so don’t assume things. (Sorry for this comment SK).

Time out guys !! dont make me feel like a referee here… ;-)

Apologies…I will leave the discussion here…Too much of blog in life…I am still learning to cope up with the blog side effects…All I want is a honest and direct feedback, without any sarcasm…peace…
